COVID-19 Artist Relief Spotlight

During this critical time that we are living in Michael Roy and Casey Kawaguchi are presenting work based around nightmares. The world can seem like a perpetual one in moments like this, and to be honest we are tired. I read the news every morning, Michael states. By lunch time, I have read my friends assertions on what we need to do better and what people sympathetic to our beliefs are doing wrong. At night I talk to my family members and see what the next empty discovery at a hospital has resulted in. In those in between moments I lose time as my mind drifts from the worries of the news.
It is hard to make work unaffected by the day. This show is about acknowledging that a good night’s sleep has been long interrupted.
This body of work is heavily indebted to the Japanese artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi and contains an exclusive collection of 3 prints. His many works on the topic of nightmares in the personal and political realm became a crucial jumping off point for the pieces in the show.
